Barcelona finalise date for Joao Cancelo medical tests as signing moves closer | OneFootball

Barcelona are closing in on their one and only signing of the winter transfer window, with Joao Cancelo set to arrive from Al Hilal. A loan deal until the end of the season has been agreed, and in the coming days, he should officially be announced as their player for the second time – after another temporary spell in the 2023-24 campaign.

Cancelo emerged as a target for Barcelona when it became clear that he would be leaving Al Hilal. Another of his former clubs in Inter pushed hard to sign him, and they had even struck a deal with the Saudi Pro League side, but their efforts fell short due to the Catalans entering the race.

Cancelo only wanted to return to Barcelona, and his wish will be granted. His move will take another spell forward on Friday when he jets in to undergo medical tests, as reported by MD.

Cancelo has been keen not to disrupt Barcelona’s ongoing efforts at the Spanish Supercup. He chose now to fly into Catalonia to undergo medical tests as he wanted to avoid any clashes with the semi-final clash against Athletic Club, which was comprehensively won by Hansi Flick’s side on Wednesday.

Cancelo won’t be presented until next week

As long as his medical goes well, Barcelona could unveil Cancelo as their latest signing as early as Friday. However, he would not be officially presented by club president Joan Laporta returns from Saudi Arabia on Monday, which would mean that he is kept waiting for his big day.

Cancelo should be able to be named in Barcelona’s squad for their first match after the Supercup final, which is next Thursday’s trip to Real Racing Club de Santander in the Copa del Rey. However, he is unlikely to start, given that he has not played much during the first half of the season.
