Barcelona had a convoluted goalkeeping situation to sort out at the beginning of the summer transfer window.

The club had the likes of Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Inaki Pena, Aron Yaakobishvili, Diego Kochen and Ander Astralaga in and around the first-team scheme of things.

Among those seven, Garcia and Szczesny were locked in as number one and number two, leaving Deco to sort out the situation of the rest of those players.

The sporting director has done a great job of handling the situation, securing exits for Ter Stegen, Pena, Kochen and Astralaga.

Racing turn their attention to Yaakobishvili

Now, according to AS, Barcelona are not considering a loan move for highly rated goalkeeper Aron Yaakobishvili despite interest from Racing Santander.

The Spanish club have identified the Hungarian as one of their preferred targets after abandoning their pursuit of Athletic Club goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala.

However, Barcelona are not prepared to sanction his departure.

Racing had made the Basque club shot-stopper their first-choice signing this summer, but the operation collapsed due to Athletic Club’s financial demands.

The newly-promoted La Liga club identified Yaakobishvili as one of the alternatives, trying to sign him on loan.

Barcelona counting on the youngster

Yaakobishvili is currently part of Hansi Flick’s pre-season squad and continues to train with the first team following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s departure to Ajax.

The Hungarian goalkeeper is viewed as part of the club’s long-term plans, making a loan move difficult at this stage of the window.

Barça need a third-choice goalkeeper to be in the squad behind Garcia and Szczesny, and it looks like the 20-year-old is likely to get the nod.

Would it be wiser to loan him out?

As a third-choice goalkeeper, it is highly unlikely that Yaakobishvili will get any game time in the first team this upcoming season.

The 20-year-old might benefit more from playing regularly for a club like Racing, who are now in the first division.

Although the club’s desire to keep him can be seen as a vote of confidence, the wiser choice might be to let him go elsewhere on loan and play regularly.

Szczesny is in his final year, and he could hang up his boots at the end of the campaign. Having a Yaakobishvili with experience could save Barcelona from investing in the market.

The Blaugrana need to make the best decision, not just for them but also for the 20-year-old Hungarian, and it remains to be seen how the club handle his situation.
