Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has openly praised the style of football that Hansi Flick has brought to the club, admitting that it was a much-needed change for the team.
Valdes expressed his excitement about Barcelona’s 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, acknowledging the impact that Flick’s approach has had on the Blaugrana’s performance.
During a press conference following the win, he congratulated all Barcelona fans and shared his appreciation for the style of play the team is now adopting under their new manager.
Valdes noted that he “really enjoyed watching” the final, highlighting the exceptional levels of physicality, commitment, technique, and ambition displayed by both teams.
The match, in his opinion, was a perfect demonstration of the progress both sides have made in modern football.
He reflected on how much the game has evolved and was particularly impressed by an “extraordinary level of physicality, commitment, technique, and footballing ambition.”

The most striking aspect of Valdes’ comments was his praise for Flick’s tactical approach.
Valdes believes the new coach has successfully understood the evolution of football and has revitalised the traditional 4-3-3 formation with a fresh dynamic.
“I really enjoy watching Barça because the coach has been able to see where football has evolved and has given the 4-3-3 a different touch,” he explained.
He added that this approach was something Barcelona needed for a long time. “I truly believe in the football they are playing. It is the kind of football that, truly, someone should have implemented at the club a long time ago,” Valdes said.
While Valdes acknowledged the high level of competition, he also reminded everyone that Real Madrid remains a formidable force. He reiterated, “Real Madrid is never dead,” demonstrating the intense rivalry between the two teams.
Despite the “super-contested and competitive” game, Valdes noted that the match had “good moments for both teams.”
