Barcelona make decision on former academy winger ahead of summer move | OneFootball

FC Barcelona currently have several folders open that they would be looking to address in the upcoming summer transfer window. The most notable of these is the signing of a new center-back to replace Robert Lewandowski in their team, with Julian Alvarez being their most preferred candidate.

Other positions the Catalans are looking to address include the left-back, for which they are negotiating with Al-Hilal for Joao Cancelo, and where the future of Alejandro Balde is quite uncertain.

Meanwhile, another operation on which the Blaugrana club seems to be working is that involving their former forward Jan Virgili, on whom they have several rights. Some recent reports suggested that there was a meeting between the player’s agent and Deco, in which they discussed the future possibilities for the winger.

Mundo Deportivo, citing SER, has now revealed Barcelona’s plans for the winger, and claim that they intend to re-sign him from Mallorca before sending him on loan to Real Betis.

The Blaugrana club owns 40% rights of the player, and following Mallorca’s relegation, his release clause stands at €12 million. Thus, the Azulgrana side can get him for €7.2 million, and after paying this amount, they would loan him out to Real Betis, a club that would be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Other possibilities that were discussed in the recent meeting included him continuing at Mallorca. However, with their relegation, this option is ruled out, especially as the player now seems ready to take the next step in his career.

Now, with the decision made to bring him back, another option for Barcelona could be to keep Jan Virgili in their squad, to replace Roony Bardghji, if the Swede ends up leaving on loan. However, for now, it seems that the Blaugrana side would send him on loan even he is re-signed by them this summer.
