Barcelona are monitoring Darwin Núñez’s situation at Al Hilal amid uncertainty over his future. Mundo Deportivo reports that the former Benfica striker was mentioned during talks between Barcelona and Al Hilal over João Cancelo.
It is not clear which party floated the idea, but the Catalan club are said to be following developments closely.
His prospects in Saudi Arabia appear to be fading. Núñez has fallen out of Al Hilal’s plans and is understood to be negotiating an amicable termination to seek a new challenge in this transfer window.
The picture shifted after Karim Benzema arrived at the Saudi club. Foreign player limits left Núñez out of league selection, cutting his minutes in the second half of the season.
Julián Álvarez remains Barcelona’s priority for the forward line, though alternative opportunities will be assessed. If Núñez were available on a free, a deal could look more appealing, but salary demands remain a significant obstacle.
Signed from Liverpool last summer for €53 million, the Uruguay international began the campaign well with goals and assists across competitions. As his role diminished, speculation over an exit accelerated and several European clubs have taken note.
