Anthony Gordon has given Thomas Tuchel a major decision to make before England face Mexico in the World Cup round of 16.
According to SPORT, the new Barcelona winger arrives at the knockout tie in his best moment of the tournament after changing the game against DR Congo from the bench.
England were losing when Tuchel introduced Gordon, and the 25-year-old responded with two assists for Harry Kane in a 2-1 comeback win.
That performance has reopened the debate on England’s left wing. Marcus Rashford had looked like the safer option, but Gordon’s speed, pressing and ability to attack space have made the decision much less obvious.
For Barça fans, this is exactly the Gordon that Hansi Flick will want to see. He is not just a winger who waits for the ball. He runs, presses, stretches defences and creates chaos in the final third. Those qualities explain why the club moved for him.

Tuchel values his defensive work, tactical discipline and intensity without the ball, while Rashford offers more international experience and a stronger goalscoring profile.
That is the balance England must weigh before facing Mexico at the Estadio Azteca. The altitude could also influence the decision.
If England need energy, pressing and repeated runs, Gordon’s physical edge may become even more important.
Tuchel has not yet settled on his ideal XI. He has made 10 changes across England’s four World Cup matches, with only a few players considered untouchable.

That leaves the left-wing spot open, and Gordon has chosen the right time to make his strongest argument.
Of course, one strong cameo does not guarantee a starting role. Rashford still has status, experience and quality.
However, Gordon has turned the debate into a real one. He gave England depth when they lacked it, service when Kane needed it and intensity when the match was slipping.
Whether he starts against Mexico or not, his World Cup is now moving in the right direction, and he will keep finding a way to add value to his team.
