The transformation of Spotify Camo Nou is entering its most delicate stage, and with it comes uncertainty that the club cannot afford to ignore.

While the long-term vision around Spotify Camp Nou remains ambitious and on track, the practical challenges of completing such a massive redevelopment is beginning to hit hard.

As reported before, Barcelona are already preparing contingency plans for a specific phase of the project, one that could temporarily force them away from Camp Nou once again.

Now, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that Barcelona are not ruling out the possibility of playing at Montjuïc during the renovation stage of the Spotify Camp Nou.

What’s the story?

The complication lies in the final stretch of construction. 

Once all seating areas are completed and the stadium is ready to operate at full capacity, work on installing the roof will require a complete halt to normal matchday activities.

Barcelona are keeping all options on the table for when all seats have been completed, and it becomes necessary to suspend all activities to install the roof.

Although the current plan is to use the Estadi Johan Cruyff, and the goal is to move some of the early matches of the 2027–28 season to Sant Joan Despi, the possibility of negotiating with the Barcelona City Council to close off Montjuïc has not been ruled out.

From a timeline perspective, the club still expects to reach a major milestone by spring 2027.

Seatings to be completed next year

According to all technical reports, full occupancy of Spotify Camp Nou is scheduled for April 2027. 

From that point on, Spotify Camp Nou will operate at full capacity. Occupancy of the Third Tier will open in phases, beginning with the two rings of VIP boxes as they are completed.

But that milestone will not mark the end of the project, as the installation of the roof remains the final and most disruptive phase.

This is four months of work, which would mean having the Spotify Camp Nou fully remodelled by October. 

It is at the start of the 2027-28 season that Barcelona plans to ask LaLiga again to play several away games and have the Estadi Johan Cruyff ready, but the club is studying the feasibility of all alternatives.
