Marc-Andre ter Stegen is all set to become the next Barcelona player leaving the club this summer after Ansu Fati.
The German keeper is set for a loan move to Ajax, with Fabrizio Romano already giving his customary ‘here we go’ for the deal.
It is understood that Barcelona would cover the bulk of Ter Stegen’s salary, possibly reaching around 85%, while Ajax will pay the rest. This is not the kind of financial relief the club were hoping for.

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has added another caveat to this.
As per the report, the portion of Ter Stegen’s wages that Ajax pay next season will not be a fixed sum, but will instead depend directly on how much the goalkeeper actually plays.
Even though Barcelona are set to cover the largest part of his salary, the amount Ajax contributes has been structured around his appearances.
In other words, the more Ter Stegen features for the Dutch side, the more they will pay towards his wages.
The reasoning behind Ajax’s approach is essentially that they have learnt from what happened during Ter Stegen’s previous loan spell at Girona.

Girona had agreed a fixed fee with Barcelona, albeit a modest one of around €1 million, only to end up paying the full amount despite Ter Stegen managing just two appearances before suffering a serious injury shortly after arriving.
Keeping that in mind, Ajax were determined not to be caught in the same trap. By linking the German’s salary to his game time, the Dutch club protect themselves against paying for a player they are unable to use, should he suffer a similar setback.
Ajax are fully aware of the flip side of this arrangement. If all goes well and Ter Stegen plays regularly, they could end up paying more than €3 million in wages across the season.
However, they have decided that risk is preferable to the alternative of committing to a fixed payment for a player whose recent injury record has been so problematic.
