Barcelona send scouts to watch surprise transfer target in Sweden

Barcelona have one of the best scouting pools in world football, and it has often allowed them to be ahead of the game when it comes to signing players. The latest case of this could happen in 2027, with moves being made towards a possible deal for one of the best players in Sweden.

Two years ago, Barcelona tried to sign Lucas Bergvall, but the midfielder opted again a move to Catalonia, instead choosing to join Tottenham Hotspur. While that was a blow, the club have continued to keep an eye on the Allsvenskan – and particularly Djurgarden, whom they tried to do business with in 2024.

It looks like the time has now come for Barcelona to make their next move in Sweden, with Expressen reporting that the Catalans had scouts in attendance to watch 22-year-old Norwegian attacking midfielder Bo Åsulv Hegland during Djurgårdens’ 2-0 victory over GAIS – a match in which Hegland scored and provided an assist.

Deco on top of Barcelona’s interest in Hegland

Hegland has been a sensation in the Allsvenskan this season, with eight goals and 15 assists in only 21 appearances. In the summer, he reportedly turned down an offer from Anderlecht, and that means he has a chance of ending up at Barcelona, with sporting director Deco in charge of the decision to send scouts to Stockholm.

It’s unclear at this stage whether Barcelona see Hegland as someone that can immediately come in and join the first team, although it is unlikely. Hansi Flick already has an abundance of talented in the centre of the park, and as far as no.10s go, he has two of the best in La Liga, those being Fermin Lopez and Dani Olmo.

However, Hegland would surely be too good for Barca Atletic, given he’s been dominating the Swedish top flight. It could be that he is being earmarked for a place in Flick’s squad, and there could be an opening if Frenkie de Jong leaves in 2027.
