Although a conclusive turn in the saga involving Julian Alvarez and FC Barcelona is not expected to come until the end of the World Cup 2026, which is going to happen today, on Sunday, some recent statements from Atletico Madrid officials have made it quite clear that getting the Argentine star is not going to be easy for the Blaugranes.

For instance, the CEO of the Colchonero club, Gil Martin, recently declared the forward a key part of his club’s team going into the next season. After these developments, it will not really be surprising if the Catalans missed out on their top transfer target of this summer.

Meanwhile, the door to one of their main alternatives to Alvarez is also seemingly closing down, as SPORT reports that Chelsea consider their forward Joao Pedro untouchable, and are not open to listening to offers, from any club, for him this summer.

The Brazilian attacker is a bet both for the present and the future for the London club, and they are intending to make him one of the references for their next project. This next project is going to be headed by the former Real Madrid midfielder and coach Xabi Alonso, and the Spaniard also considers Pedro a complete forward, who fits perfectly well with the style of play he would be bringing to his new team.

Chelsea landed Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion only a year ago for €50 million. Even if the Premier League side was willing to let him leave, he would not have come cheap. But as things stand, it looks highly unlikely that the Brazilian will leave Chelsea and join Barcelona, even if the Blaugranes miss out on Julian Alvarez and are willing to explore other options in the market to replace Robert Lewandowski.
