There has been a lot of speculation surrounding FC Barcelona’s goalkeeping department heading into the summer.
After all, the Blaugrana are set to sign Joan Garcia from RCD Espanyol soon by activating his €25 million release clause while still having Marc-Andre ter Stegen on their books.
Meanwhile, Wojciech Szczesny’s contract expires on June 30 and even though the Pole has had an offer on the table from the club, he has yet to sign the new deal.
The situation has cast some uncertainty over how the goalkeeping department will look next season.
Providing an update on Szczesny’s renewal situation, Poland-based journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk has now confirmed that the 35-year-old veteran will sign his new contract with Barcelona very soon.
The former Juventus and Arsenal star will be renewing for two more years until 2027. The lawyers have been working on the final details of the deal and it is expected to be signed and sealed imminently.

The journalist adds that the Garcia signing was never going to impact the Szczesny situation, with Barcelona having been clear that they wanted to keep him at the club.
In fact, some other reports in Spain have suggested that the Pole will be the Catalans’ second-choice goalkeeper next season with the new signing taking over the No. 1 spot, leaving Ter Stegen out in the cold.
The Barcelona captain, thus, has a major decision to make this summer with regard to his future even though he has, so far, stood firm on his position that he will not be leaving Barcelona.
As for Szczesny, the veteran goalkeeper will sign a new contract soon and continue at Barcelona for one more season at the very least.
