Barcelona VP strongly believes Camp Nou will host 2030 World Cup final: ‘It’s very possible’ | OneFootball

The venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup final remains a major topic of debate.

The tournament will be hosted jointly by Spain and Morocco, with both nations vying to host the showpiece event.

Reports have suggested that the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, still under construction, has emerged as a strong contender.

As for Spain, two options have been doing the rounds, Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou and Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu.

There has been a general feeling that Spain’s chances are limited, largely because of political considerations, leading to the possibility of the final being played in Morocco.

Barcelona not giving up on hope

However, there is optimism within Barcelona, the city council, and the Catalan government that Camp Nou can win the battle for the hosting rights for the 2030 World Cup final.

Indeed, Antonio Escudero, Barcelona’s vice-president for the social area, revealed in a recent interview that the final could instead be held at the Spotify Camp Nou.

“We would really like it. I think so, it’s very possible. Sports authorities around the world are on board. We’ve made a great effort and we have a great stadium. We have a great stadium, it’s about time,” Escudero said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

He went further, adding: “There is a very high probability that it will be that way.”

Escudero’s comments reflect the position being expressed by figures within Barcelona, although the final venue has yet to be definitively settled.

The Blaugrana’s iconic stadium was recently chosen to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, and there is confidence that the 2030 World Cup could also be played at the venue.

No plans to increase season-ticket prices

The Barcelona vice-president also addressed reports that the club could be considering an increase in season-ticket prices.

“Nobody has talked about increasing season-ticket prices. People can be reassured. Nobody has discussed it. I’m a vice-president, so I’d know something about it. It’s not on the table,” Escudero said.

Escudero also expressed confidence that work on the renovated stadium will be completed within the planned timeframe.

“Let’s hope so. I was critical of it. I wouldn’t have actually left Montjuic , but they decided against it,” he explained.

He acknowledged that the decision to return to the renovated stadium involved several factors, including the people involved in the project and its financing.

“The people who collaborated, the financing, wanted us to be there. Sometimes, Barça can’t make that decision directly. Sometimes, Barça can’t make that decision directly,” he added, acknowledging that there had been differing views over the return to the stadium.
