The wait for another chapter in Spanish football’s greatest rivalry is already underway after La Liga confirmed the dates for the two El Clasico meetings of the 2026/27 campaign.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to renew hostilities in what promises to be one of the most anticipated storylines of the season, particularly with Jose Mourinho back in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu. 

El Clasico 2026/27 dates confirmed

The official La Liga calendar released on Tuesday confirmed that the two Barcelona vs Real Madrid clashes will be played on matchdays 10 and 35 of the 2026/27 season.

The first El Clasico 2026/27 encounter is scheduled for the weekend of October 25, with the Spotify Camp Nou hosting the season’s opening showdown between the two rivals.

The return fixture will take place on May 9 at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the second Barcelona vs Real Madrid meeting arriving during the closing stages of the league campaign. 

Depending on the standings, that clash could have a major influence on the destination of the title.

The spotlight will naturally fall on Mourinho, who is preparing for his first La Liga Clasico since returning to Madrid. 

Flick’s Barcelona have dominated recent Clasicos

While Mourinho’s return has generated excitement among Real Madrid fans, recent history has heavily favoured Barcelona.

Since Hansi Flick took charge, Barça have transformed El Clasico into a fixture they have largely controlled. 

Barcelona have won six of their last seven meetings against Real Madrid across La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, producing an impressive tally of 22 goals scored and only 11 conceded.

Barcelona’s superiority has not been limited to head-to-head results, as the Catalan side have also enjoyed greater success in domestic competitions during the past two seasons.

During that period, Barcelona have lifted five domestic trophies, including two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey. 

The only major domestic competition that slipped away from Flick’s side was last season’s Copa del Rey.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have endured a difficult spell in Spain’s biggest competitions, making Mourinho’s return even more important for the Los Blancos.
