Although he made headlines recently by winning the Kopa Trophy and finishing second in the Ballon d’Or 2025 rankings, the FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has been unable to participate in the last few games for his team.
The 18-year-old forward has been struggling with pubalgia (groin discomfort) and has already missed games against Valencia, Newcastle United, and Getafe. Barça, however, have coped impressively in his absence, securing three straight wins with an aggregate score of 11–1.
In this regard, Mundo Deportivo claims that Yamal will have to miss the game against Real Oviedo, as he was unable to train yesterday and is unlikely to train with his teammates today either, but will be able to return to the pitch for the league match against Real Sociedad.
Still, optimism surrounds his recovery. Club president Joan Laporta, speaking at the Ballon d’Or gala, admitted that the teenager is aiming to return for the La Liga match against Real Sociedad next Sunday at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
“Yes, it’s true that he’s injured now with this damn pubalgia; he said maybe he’d be fit for the Real game.”
The plan is for Yamal to get some minutes against La Real in order to regain rhythm and reach peak fitness for the crucial Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on October 1.
With the new UCL format placing added importance on League Phase positions, FC Barcelona will be eager to have their No. 10 ready to make an impact.
