Barcelona midfielder Gavi faces up to five months on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery. The 21-year-old played in Barça’s first two fixtures of the campaign before hurting his right knee during a training session in August. There were concerns the Spain international had repeated the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury he sustained in 2023. Scans showed Gavi avoided another ACL tear, but he required surgery to repair cartilage damage. "Gavi has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus," a Barcelona statement said. "Recovery time is estimated at around 4-5 months." Gavi became the fourth-youngest player to debut for Barcelona when he first appeared in 2021. Since then, he has registered 10 goals in 155 appearances and lifted five trophies. He previously tore his ACL while representing Spain in November 2023, an injury that ruled him out for nearly a year. Barcelona currently sit second in La Liga, trailing Real Madrid by five points but holding a game in hand.
