A prominent name is circulating around FC Bayern for the defense, but there is apparently a big hurdle between interest and a possible deal

Josko Gvardiol is once again being touted as a possible candidate by the record champions

Lothar Matthäus recently brought concrete movement into the debate. On Sky, the former international said: „I’ve got my eye on a player and I’ve heard that they’re already looking into it.“ Matthäus became even clearer immediately afterwards: „A former Bundesliga player from Leipzig, currently playing for Manchester City, left back, can also play in the center. His name is Gvardiol.“

TEAMtalk had previously reported on initial contact, according to which the Munich club are said to have enquired about the 24-year-old’s willingness to move. Although this does not confirm a possible move, there are several indications that the name is at least being discussed at Säbener Straße

In sporting terms, the profile would be easy to explain. Gvardiol can defend on the left and also play in the center of defence. He is actually one of the regulars at Manchester City, but the Croatian World Cup winner has been out since January with a fractured tibia. As a result, he has made 17 appearances so far in the current Premier League season

Gvardiola is likely to be expensive for Bayern

The biggest catch is apparently the price. According to information from SPORT1, Gvardioliol can well imagine a move to Munich and is said to already be pushing for a departure from City. The report also states that the left-footer has been a fan of FC Bayern since childhood

The decisive factor, however, is the attitude of his club. Manchester City are said to be demanding around 90 million euros for the defender, who is tied down until 2028. According to the report, a release for less than 75 million euros is considered almost impossible. This is exactly where the case becomes complicated for Bayern, as it is currently unclear whether the club would invest such a sum for a defensive player

In addition, the basic need is not yet clear. On the left, Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito are two options available, even if both are repeatedly out injured. In the middle, Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano are set, Minjae Kim is considered an alternative and at the same time a possible farewell candidate. Gvardiol thus fits the profile in sporting terms, but the price could put an early brake on the poker.
