Since returning from a cruciate ligament tear in December, Alphonso Davies has struggled to stay consistently fit due to recurring setbacks.

The Canada international suffered another injury blow in FC Bayern München’s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain last week and is set to miss the rest of the season with a muscle injury in the back of his left thigh.

The injury has jeopardised Davies’ chances of featuring at the World Cup with Canada, whose opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina is exactly one month away – leaving Bayern in an uncomfortable situation.

According to Bild, Bayern believe Davies will need around six weeks to fully recover from the injury.

The Bayern bosses would reportedly prefer him to skip the tournament entirely in order to recover fully, but that scenario is considered unlikely, as Davies is Canada’s captain and wouldn't want to miss the unique opportunity of representing his country at a World Cup at home.

In Canada, however, officials are reportedly expecting a shorter recovery period of four to five weeks, which could still make it possible for Davies to feature at the tournament in the best-case scenario.

However, the shorter the recovery time, the higher the risk of Davies suffering another injury – something that Bayern will obviously be desperate to avoid.
