Bayern is reportedly keeping an eye on him, too: Newcastle makes a move for goalkeeper Ernst | OneFootball

FC Bayern continues to closely monitor the goalkeeper market—and one of the candidates they’re tracking now faces a high-profile competitor. Lukas Hornicek of SC Braga is reportedly drawing interest from England as well.

According to a new report, Newcastle United is reportedly actively considering a potential transfer of Lukas Hornicek. Interest from the Premier League is thus growing for the 24-year-old SC Braga goalkeeper—a development that is likely to be noted at Säbener Straße as well.

After all, Hornicek himself had recently been linked with FC Bayern. As reported by Mais Futebol, the Czech national team goalkeeper is said to be on Munich’s shortlist. However, there reportedly haven’t been any concrete talks with Braga yet—the interest is currently viewed more as monitoring than as active negotiations.

A potential transfer wouldn’t come cheap anyway. The Portuguese club apparently doesn’t want to let their goalkeeper go for less than his buyout clause, which is said to be around 30 million euros.

Why this signing matters for Bayern

In the short term, the goalkeeper situation in Munich has been resolved. As things stand, FC Bayern is planning for the new season with Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig, and Sven Ulreich. Neuer has extended his contract once again through the summer of 2027, and Urbig is seen as a potential successor.

Things get interesting when looking ahead to the time after that: Neuer and Ulreich are expected to retire after the upcoming season. Bayern’s interest in Hornicek is therefore primarily aimed at mid-term planning. Even though Urbig is slated to be the next number one, the club is likely to be looking for a strong backup in the long run.

Hornicek isn’t the only name that’s come up in Munich recently. This past summer, the record champions were also linked to Paraguayan national team goalkeeper Orlando Gill, among others. However, no concrete action has emerged from these reports.

It remains to be seen whether Hornicek will actually leave Braga. The goalkeeper made his international debut for the Czech Republic just at the end of May and was also part of the World Cup squad. Should Newcastle make a serious move, competition for the 24-year-old could intensify—while Bayern Munich continues to monitor the situation from a distance.
