Germany’s head coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has confirmed that Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz will return to the national team set up in the next international break, in an interview with kicker.
Both Musiala and Havertz are slowly making their returns from lengthy injuries. Musiala has been building his match fitness with Bayern, while Havertz has only just made his return for Arsenal.
On whether they could be called up for the March international break, Nagelsmann said:
It’s definitely advisable for Kai and Jamal to return in March, because they’ve been away for what feels like forever. I haven’t seen Jamal with the national team for over ten months, and Kai even longer. They only know some of the things we’ve been doing since then in theory, from conversations with me. So it’s really valuable that they’re back, because otherwise it will eventually become difficult for them to find their rhythm within the national team.
Musiala’s last appearance for the national team came in the quarter-final second leg of the Nations League against Italy. While Havertz last played in November 2024 in the Nations League league phase.
There is no doubt that when fit, Bayern’s attacking dynamo is a starter for Germany; however, when it comes to Havertz, his place in the starting 11 is no longer certain.
The form of the likes of Nick Woltemade, when playing for Germany, as well as Deniz Undav’s recent form for Stuttgart, means that when it comes to the striker position, the Arsenal forward could at least be the third choice striker.
