Luis Díaz put his hands into the shape of a heart as he lapped up the appreciation from 75,000 people inside the Allianz Arena. The Colombian had just played his part in all five goals of Bayern’s win over Hoffenheim. “Luis made the difference today,” said board member for sport Max Eberl. “He was the key player, even though we got the win as a group. Luis always plays with his heart and desire. He can take on several players at times. We’re so happy he’s with us.”
The goals were all the result of the entire group, which has propelled Bayern throughout the season. The opening two came from Harry Kane, taking him up to 24 from 21 matchdays in the Bundesliga. Only Robert Lewandowski has ever had more at this stage, with 25 in his record-breaking 41-goal season in 2020/21. The two penalties he scored – maintaining his perfect record from the spot in the Bundesliga after 22 attempts – were both won by Díaz’s skill and trickery in the box. The left winger then scored the third himself, finishing off a counter led by Kane. The fourth was set up by wing counterpart Michael Olise, while the fifth for the Colombian’s hat-trick was provided by Jamal Musiala. “We’re having a lot of fun with him, how he scores and how he plays for the team,” CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said in praise of Díaz. “He’s a real whirlwind. He’s doing a lot for our attacking play.”
It was an evening that proved symbolic of Bayern’s attacking prowess this season, which is reflected in the numbers. It’s the first time since detailed data collection began in 2004/05 that Bayern have had three players with at least a combined 20 goals and assists after 21 matchdays, in Kane, Díaz and Olise. The latter provided an assist for the sixth Bundesliga game running in the win over Hoffenheim, which is a feat only Thomas Müller has previously achieved for Bayern since 2004/05, when he did it seven matches in a row in 2021. A total of 16 assists means Olise has already surpassed his total from his maiden campaign in Germany (15). As for Díaz, his first Bundesliga hat-trick – something he never managed in England’s Premier League – took him to 13 league goals for the season, equalling his personal best from his time at Liverpool. He’s only had more with Porto (14).
Meanwhile, Kane, who had already ushered in a new era of goalscoring at Bayern after his move to Munich two and a half years ago, looks to have found the ideal partners around him in Olise and Díaz. Combined, the trio have a remarkable 77 goals and assists combined over the first 21 matchdays – an unprecedented total in Germany’s first division. Kane accounts for 29 of them, Olise 26 and Díaz 22. What it all means is that this Bayern attack isn’t just good but historically excellent. And the bottom line is that 79 goals scored after 21 games is a new record in the Bundesliga, smashing the previous best of 68 from 2021/22.
Broken down to just goals scored alone, Kane has 24, Díaz 13 and Olise 10, giving a combined total of 47 – again a record for a trio after 21 matchdays in the Bundesliga. Together they account for 59 percent of Bayern’s 79 goals. It’s only the third time in Bundesliga history that a team has had at least three players with double figures for goals after 21 games, but none have posted numbers like Bayern’s terrific trip. They currently occupy the top four in the 2025/26 scoring chart, with only VfB Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav (11 goals) breaking the monopoly. Add in assists and nobody comes close to disrupting Bayern’s three forwards at the top of the goal contribution chart.
Díaz and Olise alone stand head and shoulders above all before them as the first wing duo to have a combined 20 goals and assists each after 21 Bundesliga matchdays. Their package of speed, technique and ability to deliver makes Bayern’s attack such a threat.
Bayern’s numbers also stand up outside Germany. Based on their current scoring rate, they will finish this season with 128 goals. That’s a number only previously produced by the Aston Villa team of 1930/31 in England – an almost 100-year-old record across Europe’s major leagues and one that would ultimately prove how deadly this Munich front line is.
That firepower has Bayern well placed to defend their Bundesliga title and also make their mark in Europe. Kane, Olise and Díaz are the core of an attack that is rewriting the history books with spectacular football that fans can happily get used to seeing.
