Marco Silva is in Lisbon and is thought to have held talks with Benfica president Rui Costa as the club explore a successor to José Mourinho for next season.
Record writes that negotiations with the 48-year-old are well advanced, with a two-year contract plus a further year as an option under discussion, and salary terms still being debated.
No agreement is in place. The report said Silva is prepared to lower his wage to coach Benfica, and any unveiling would only follow confirmation that Mourinho will leave the Estádio da Luz. Talks are set to continue until an agreement is reached.
On this basis, it is believed he has rejected Fulham’s renewal offer, which included a sizeable pay rise and planned investment in the 2026/27 squad. His coaching staff will stop working in London from this week.
After recent uncertainty and twists, the sense that Silva could become Benfica’s next head coach has strengthened. The club are also working to settle Mourinho’s situation, with his exit described as being held up by elections at Real Madrid.
