According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica will not pursue a contingency alternative to Marco Silva, and César Peixoto is not in their plans even if Silva declines.
The Lisbon club view the Fulham head coach as the desired profile. Peixoto, currently in charge of Gil Vicente, does not meet the criteria set by Benfica.
Peixoto impressed this season, guiding the Barcelos side to a notably positive league campaign. Even so, Benfica believe he lacks the experience required for a challenge of this magnitude.
His name had been linked with Benfica in recent months, at a time when José Mourinho’s departure was not guaranteed. The Gil Vicente coach took note of the speculation.
There is significant uncertainty around the Benfica job. Mourinho’s exit is on hold because of elections at Real Madrid. Marco Silva remains the preferred target, and the club plan to approach him only after the Mourinho situation is resolved as they race to prepare for next season.
