Benfica are yet to make contact with Marco Silva, and his salary is viewed as a significant obstacle to any move, Record writes.
Amid uncertainty over José Mourinho’s continuity, which was left in suspense by elections at Real Madrid, Silva is aware via Jorge Mendes of Benfica’s interest.
The 48-year-old currently earns €5.8m net at Fulham, rising to about €7.5m with performance bonuses.
Fulham want to keep him for a further four years and have tabled a renewal with a base wage of €7.2m net.
Those sums sit far above Portuguese norms. To match his Fulham take-home pay, Benfica would need a gross package in the region of €10m to €14m, with roughly half lost to tax.
There is some room for manoeuvre. Silva has signalled he could reduce his demands, finding Benfica’s project attractive, so the Fulham offer may act as a reference point in any negotiations with the former Sporting manager.
