Benfica ‘to press ahead with’ Trubin contract renewal despite bench role and high wages | OneFootball

Benfica are preparing to push on with a new contract for Trubin despite the goalkeeper losing his starting place this season. According to Glorioso 1904, the club intend to advance talks even though he is currently behind Samuel Soares.

The 25-year-old is under contract until 2028 and is among the squad’s highest earners, factors that make an extension more complex than Soares’s. Marco Silva has not favoured him so far.

An undisputed No 1 for the past three seasons, his status shifted with the arrival of the new head coach. Samuel Soares has recently taken the gloves, pushing Trubin into a back-up role.

The Ukrainian international is unhappy with the situation, yet the club hierarchy still trust him. Benfica are also looking to extend the deals of Samuel Soares, Andreas Schjelderup and Gianluca Prestianni.

Trubin joined in summer 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk for €10 million plus €1 million in add-ons. Shakhtar retained 40% of any future capital gain, a clause that means Benfica would seek a high fee in any eventual sale.
