Real Madrid’s pre-season preparations are well and truly underway, with a host of first-team players reporting to training earlier in the day.

One of them was David Alaba, a player who has found himself on the sidelines more often than not in recent years due to injuries.

Alaba has indeed had a tough time with injuries, which has even led to speculation over his future at Santiago Bernabeu.

But as Real Madrid look to kickstart the new season in less than two weeks, Alaba appears to be fully fit and ready to go.

Alaba trains without discomfort

Spanish journalist Alberto Pereiro has offered an update on Alaba’s fitness as he trained with the rest of the squad earlier today.

Pereiro confirms that Alaba was able to complete all training routines without feeling any sort of discomfort or pain.

The Austrian international also operated without any kind of bandage, which further boosts the hope of his return to full fitness.

Alaba was able to feature in only 600 minutes of action last season owing to his injury. He will be hoping to become a first-team regular under Xabi Alonso, someone he played with during their time together at Bayern Munich.

This promises to be a make or break season for Alaba, who is not considered a part of Real Madrid’s long-term project.

The former Bayern Munich star, therefore, will be determined to prove critics wrong and become a key element in Real Madrid’s new look defence.

Apart from his on-field contributions, Alaba is a key outlet in the dressing room due to his experience and leadership. Hence, Real Madrid will be more than happy to have the Austrian return to full fitness, regardless of whether or not he is playing.
