Sydie Peck could leave Sheffield United this summer for a lucrative fee

Sheffield United look destined to spend another year in the EFL Championship, with some sales likely to be made over the summer to balance the books at Bramall Lane.

It's certainly not been a memorable season for Sheffield United supporters, who will be eager to see the back of this campaign and prepare for next year's.

Their chances of breaking their way back into the top six yet again took a massive blow in the first quarter of the campaign, with Ruben Selles' tenure inflicting a huge amount of damage on the club's standings in the second tier.

Zero points in six games was enough to see the Spaniard dismissed after his appointment in the summer, as the Blades returned to Chris Wilder to help to get them out of the mess they found themselves in.

Whilst he has helped to steer them clear of the threat of relegation, they remain some way off the top six, with some immaculate form required between now and the end of the season for them to stand a chance at making the play-offs.

With the club almost certainly playing their football in the second tier once again next year and parachute payments due to expire, sales will need to be made this summer, as one player in particular is expected to be one of their prized assets.

Sheffield United's Sydie Peck is likely to attract interest this summer

Sydie Peck has become one of Sheffield United's most integral players, having had his breakthrough season at Bramall Lane last year, making 42 league appearances in the middle of the park.

The 21-year-old has retained his status as one of the side's key players this campaign too, and his performances have drawn interest from clubs in the Premier League.

Football League World's Sheffield United fan pundit, Jimmy, has provided their thoughts on whether Peck will leave the club this summer, and if so, how much the Blades should command for the midfielder.

Jimmy said, "A lot of Sheffield United fans are asking this question at the minute, because it's widely rumoured that he is the boy who will certainly be our prized asset in the summer.

"It's going to be a high ticket sale, and Blades are saying we want £20 million. Well, I think we have to be more realistic, and I genuinely think around £15 million plus any add-ons will do.

"I think Brentford at the moment are the most likely suitors, if I'm honest, just due to Keith Andrews' links to the club, and having worked with him closely previously.

"There's a chance Nottingham Forest comes in, and maybe Tyler Bindon is part of that deal. That would be of interest to Sheffield United, I'm sure.

"But ideally, we want to keep Sydie. It's just very likely that he leaves because we will have to sell players, no longer having access to parachute payments."

Chris Wilder would likely be reluctant to see Sydie Peck leave Sheffield United, but may have little choice

With Sheffield United's chances of playing in the second tier next year high, sales will need to be made to offset the loss of parachute payments over the summer.

Over the past couple of seasons since relegation, the Blades have spent upwards of £40 million on new arrivals, though they have made sales which have seen upwards of £60 million into the club during that time.

Despite this, the loss of money they would have had due to relegation will have been substantial, and due to no more parachute payments, they must now essentially sell to spend once again.

With a lot of their squads' stocks having decreased, such as Tom Cannon, Mark McGuinness, and Tahith Chong, saleable assets are few and far between.

Peck is probably their most valuable commodity at the moment, and though Wilder would likely be reluctant to sanction any departure, the need to bring some money in may force his hand.

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the best young midfielders in the division and looks destined to make the next step sooner rather than later.

If Sheffield United can't earn promotion this season, an exit this summer may well be on the cards for Peck, who won't be short on offers.

Wilder will try to command as high a fee as possible for Peck in the event of any departure, and though their side will look substantially weaker without him in it, it may be a necessity to improve areas of the squad elsewhere.
