Blackburn Rovers are struggling to agree terms with both Callum Brittain and Lewis Travis over fresh new contracts.

According to Alan Nixon, the Lancashire outfit have been unable to meet both players’ demands amid uncertainty over their futures at Ewood Park.

Brittain and Travis both still have 12 months remaining on their current deals, but they run the risk of losing them for nothing in 2026 if extensions cannot be agreed.

Travis featured 38 times for Blackburn in the Championship last season, while Brittain played on 33 occasions, with the team coming seventh in the table under Valerien Ismael.

Blackburn have reportedly offered Travis a three-year deal in a bid to keep him at Ewood Park until the summer of 2028.

However, the midfielder is looking for a better offer, and is even willing to see if Wrexham come in with a bid to sign him in the transfer window.

The Red Dragons have been previously linked with an interest in the player by Alan Nixon, with Rovers setting a £2 million asking price.

Birmingham have also been mentioned as a potential next destination for the 27-year-old, with both sides earning promotion to the Championship last season.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Brittain is also yet to agree terms on a deal, despite talks being ongoing for a number of weeks now.

It has been claimed that the defender is holding out for more money from Blackburn, as he enters the final 12 months of his current contract.

Blackburn will be keen to fight for a play-off place this season after narrowly missing out on a top six finish in the previous campaign.

Ismael took charge of the side in February after John Eustace’s decision to move to Derby County midway through the term.

Despite a poor start to life at Ewood Park, a strong run of form in the final weeks of the season saw the Lancashire outfit earn a seventh place finish.

Blackburn missed out on a play-off place by just two points, having drawn their final game of the year against Sheffield United.

Blackburn have already had high profile players leave for nothing like Ben Brereton Diaz, and have far too frequently let other important stars get to the final 12 months of their deal.

This is costing them money, as it’s allowing players to either leave for nothing or else use their strong leverage to get better deals than they might’ve with more time on their contracts.

This is an organisational issue that needs to be reviewed and fixed, as it will hamper their ability to compete at this level.

Losing Travis and Brittain this summer, potentially for cut rate price, would be bad for Ismael’s side, but it’s the risk they run with those players both now in the final 12 months of their deals.
