Coventry City need just a point from their game at Blackburn Rovers tonight to mathematically secure promotion to the Premier League, but the game also means a lot down at the bottom, too.

Given Blackburn's midweek meeting with Southampton, Michael O'Neill's side have played one more game than the rest of their relegation rivals, and after tonight, everyone else will have played two fewer than Rovers.

The points gap between themselves and Oxford United, who sit in the final relegation place, sits at just four points, so a loss, paired with positive results from West Brom and the Yellows later this weekend, could make Blackburn sweat slightly heading into the final weeks of the campaign.

Therefore, Blackburn are drumming up as much interest as they can to try and get their fans behind them, including announcing the return of a popular figure at Ewood Park over the last couple of years.

Tyrhys Dolan returns to Blackburn Rovers for Coventry City matchup - 24-year-old reacts

Blackburn have announced on their Instagram that Tyrhys Dolan is flying over from Spain to support Rovers in their matchup with Coventry tonight.

The 24-year-old departed the club after five years at Ewood Park in the summer, moving to La Liga side RCD Espanyol after his Blackburn contract expired. With no games in the Spanish top-flight games going ahead this weekend due to the Copa del Rey final, Dolan is using the free weekend to return to East Lancashire.

In the comments of Blackburn's Instagram post, Dolan commented "🏡🫶🏾💙," still showing his affection towards the club, despite him moving on to new pastures ahead of the season.

Dolan has been a regular fixture at his new club, who were in La Liga's top five and two points off a UEFA Champions League place at the turn of the year. Since then, though, Espanyol have failed to win in 14 league games, slipping down to 10th as a result.

Manolo Gonzales will be hoping that this short break can help his side regroup and push for a top-six spot in the final seven games, and Dolan especially, who has netted once and assisted four times so far this season, can come back rejuvenated from potentially watching a huge win at his former club.

Blackburn Rovers have missed Tyrhys Dolan this season

This past summer wasn't too kind towards Blackburn in terms of player departures, with the likes of Dom Hyam, Callum Brittain and Lewis Travis all departing for fees to fellow Championship sides.

Dolan was among the first to leave, though, opting not to sign the new deal on the table at Ewood Park, instead choosing to test himself at top-flight level in Spain.

And while his goal involvements this season haven't exactly mirrored the seven goals and six assists he managed in his final year at Blackburn, his involvement from the off in the majority of games in La Liga this season for a side who were competing for Europe has shown that the 24-year-old is, indeed, good enough to cut it in a top-five league.

And Rovers' subsequent slide down the table over the past year has proven how key an asset he was for the club, alongside some of his aforementioned teammates who also departed in the summer.

It was always going to be difficult to replace someone like Dolan, not only talent-wise but also with someone who loves the club as he does. He evidently still sees Ewood Park as his home in England, and he'll be hoping for his side to put on a show and spoil the Coventry promotion party in the process.
