According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Boca suffered a major blow, with Rodrigo Battaglia to miss at least the entire semester due to an Achilles problem.
Boca opened the Torneo Apertura by beating Deportivo Riestra 1-0 in Zone A, Lautaro Di Lollo scoring with a header.
Before the pre-season friendly against Millonarios, the former Atlético Mineiro midfielder was diagnosed with insertional Achilles tendinopathy, a condition bringing severe everyday pain. Recent physiotherapy and special treatment did not have the desired effect, so surgery is required.
There is no tendon rupture, but the procedure is comparable to one. Recovery is estimated at around six to eight months, and in some cases rehabilitation can stretch to a year depending on his progress.
As a result, the 34-year-old will miss the Torneo Apertura and the Copa Libertadores group stage at a minimum. The situation is prompting the hierarchy to accelerate talks to sign Santiago Ascacibar.
Boca also have Carlos Palacios, synovitis in his right knee, Edinson Cavani, lumbalgia, and Milton Giménez, pubalgia, sidelined. Alan Velasco and Lucas Janson left the pitch with knocks, with ice applied to Velasco’s left leg.
