Bologna midfielder Giovanni Fabbian has praised Inter Milan head coach Cristian Chivu as “a great person” ahead of Sunday night’s Serie A clash at San Siro, as he prepares to face the club where he was developed.
The 2003-born midfielder will once again come up against Inter Milan, following their recent meeting in the Italian Supercoppa in Riyadh, where he went close to scoring late on. This time, the stakes are league points, and the emotional backdrop remains strong.
Speaking to Il Resto del Carlino, with quotes via FCInterNews, Giovanni Fabbian reflected on his formative years in Milan. “I spent four years in Inter’s youth system,” he said. “Those years gave an important imprint to the player I am today.”

Last summer, Inter had the option to bring him back, but the midfielder insists he remained calm throughout the process. “I spent those days at the seaside,” Fabbian explained. “I was very relaxed.”
A key figure from that period now sits on Inter’s bench. Fabbian worked closely with Cristian Chivu during his time in the Nerazzurri Primavera side. And he had only praise for his former coach.
“Chivu is a great person and a very good coach,” he said. “What strikes you most about him is his humility. I’m not surprised he’s doing so well.”
As for what Bologna will need to trouble Inter again on Sunday night, Fabbian kept it simple. “We’ll need to be physically strong and run a lot,” he said, underlining the intensity required to compete at San Siro.
