Jonathan Rowe’s future could lie away from Bologna, with the winger attracting a double approach from the Premier League.

According to Il Resto del Carlino, via CalcioMercato.it, Chelsea and Aston Villa have both set their sights on the England winger for next season, raising the prospect of a return to his homeland.

Bologna are asking for around €40 million for a player who, for his part, would welcome a move back to the Premier League.

Red card adds to uncertainty over Rowe’s Bologna future

The speculation arrives at a delicate moment. Rowe was sent off for violent conduct in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Arminia Bielefeld, an incident that has sounded an alarm within the club, with concern that the transfer noise around him could be affecting the winger.

The interest is not new.

Chelsea were reported to have made contact with Rowe’s representatives earlier this month as they weighed up options for wide areas, and Villa’s entry now gives the parties a second Premier League suitor to weigh up.

Having rebuilt his stock with a strong first season in Serie A following his move from Marseille, Rowe would represent a significant sale for the Rossoblù, provided a club meets their €40m valuation.

For new coach Domenico Tedesco, the situation is one to manage carefully as he begins his tenure, balancing the value of keeping a productive attacker against the reality that serious Premier League interest, and the player’s own openness to it, can quickly change the picture.
