Botafogo beat Vasco da Gama 2-1 at Estádio São Januário to rise from 15th to 8th in the Brasileirão.
Early on, Vasco's goalkeeper Leo Jardim kept the game goalless with sharp stops as Arthur Cabral and Matheus Martins tested him.
In the 61st minute, David steered in from close range after José Luis Rodríguez's low cross. Lucas Villalba levelled with a header (66.), and Martins curled the winner into the top corner from outside the box (79.) after Álvaro Montoro's pass.
Vasco pushed in the closing stages, but the visitors' back line stood up to a stream of crosses and cleared their box decisively.
Vasco finished with 63% possession and 17 attempts. Fogão produced 18 attempts, hitting nine on target.
The result drops Vasco from eighth to ninth. Next, Vasco visit Barracas in the Sudamericana. Fogão host Caracas in the Sudamericana next.
