Danilo’s Botafogo future is uncertain after the World Cup, and Flamengo’s interest has cooled as Botafogo set a steep valuation.
O Globo reports that Botafogo are seeking €40m, about R$ 234m, for the player, a figure that has led Flamengo to step back.
Flamengo regard that outlay as poor value given a surplus of midfielders, and a major spend in that area is not a priority now.
Danilo is one of Botafogo’s leading players and has been named in Brazil’s final World Cup squad. He asked to sit out Botafogo’s last game before the call-up due to personal reasons.
He has not yet reached 13 Brasileirão appearances, so is still eligible to join another Brazilian club. Palmeiras are monitoring, and his camp do not rule out a move abroad after the World Cup.
While Danilo weighs his options, Flamengo focus on Wednesday 20’s fifth round of the Copa Libertadores against Estudiantes of Argentina at the Maracanã, kick-off 21:30 Brasília time.
