A 14-year-old boy died after a fountain collapsed during Spain's World Cup title celebrations in Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca.
According to El Norte de Castilla, the incident occurred at the Glorieta del Árbol Gordo, a regular gathering point for sporting celebrations in the town, and at least one other person was injured.
The structure gave way under the weight of several people standing on it during the festivities. As it fell, parts of the ornament struck fans inside the fountain, including the boy, who later died.
Castilla y León's 112 emergency service received the first alerts at 00:33. Local Police, the Guardia Civil, the Salamanca provincial fire service and Sacyl medical teams were sent to the scene.
Two people were taken to the Ciudad Rodrigo health centre, where the boy's death was confirmed. A psychological intervention group was activated to support the victim's relatives and close friends.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
