Martin Braithwaite’s pay at Grêmio rose in August, intensifying debate over the 35-year-old’s form and value. Once pivotal in 2024 and early 2025, he is now short of goals.
According to GZH, the Dane now earns about R$ 2.7 million per month. His contract runs to December 2027.
The package includes salary, image rights and renegotiated signing-on fees. He will cost Grêmio R$ 45.9 million over the next 17 months.
After the loss to Atlético-MG, executive director Paulo Pelaipe highlighted financial strain, saying Arthur and Willian left because the club could not meet their salaries. He added that more players are on wages beyond the club’s reality, apologised to supporters and said the display was not worthy of Grêmio.
Braithwaite is understood to want to see out his deal, having built ties in Porto Alegre where his family are settled.
Announced on 31 July 2024, he helped avert relegation that year, scoring eight and providing two assists in 18 matches.
He extended his deal in July 2025, before rupturing his left Achilles against Mirassol that September. He had surgery and spent about six months out, returning early 2026. Since arriving he has played 81 times, with 27 goals and six assists, while Carlos Vinícius later became first-choice up front.
