Despite an underwhelming form during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying cycle, Brazil secured qualification for next summer’s tournament.

Indeed, the Selecao finished fifth in the South American qualifying group, suffering an alarming six defeats in 18 matches.

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has won two of his four games in charge since arriving at the helm in June.

However, the record-time world champions finished their lackluster qualifying campaign with a dreadful 1-0 defeat at Bolivia.

Therefore, the 66-year-old manager has his plate full, with massive improvement required if Brazil are to compete for a record-extending sixth title.

On the other hand, Inter Milan star Carlos Augusto returns to the national team for the first time since November 2023.

“This is not a definitive list,” Ancelotti confirmed. “This weekend we have Champions League matches.

“We’re giving priority to players based in Europe because they travel less and due to the time zone difference.

“Many of these players should be at the World Cup, but we’re also taking into account the injuries of recent days.”

Then, he opened up on Augusto’s return to the squad.

“Carlos Augusto is playing as a centre-back at Inter,” Ancelotti added.

“I wanted to add one more defender, considering the potential problems in these games.”

Despite playing second fiddle to Federico Dimarco, Augusto has already made five appearances in Serie A this season.

Moreover, the 26-year-old has registered two assists, including one against Juventus, while playing as a center-back.

His impressive form has now earned him a long-awaited return to the national team.
