Stade Brestois captain Brendan Chardonnet has suffered a calf injury and will miss at least next weekend’s season opener at Le Mans, according to L'Équipe.
He felt sharp pain in training on Saturday morning, stopped the session and did not travel for Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.
With tests due early this week, the length of absence remains to be determined, and Lachuer said there is a strong chance Chardonnet does not start the season in Le Mans.
Options are thin at centre-back. Brest lost loanees Soumaïla Coulibaly and Junior Diaz this summer and have so far added only Gautier Lloris, a free transfer from Le Havre who arrived this week.
Lloris followed an individual programme over the summer, is short of full fitness and did not play in England on Sunday. Raphaël Le Guen, who turns 20 on one September, continues his step up.
Lachuer intends to take the week to decide on a pairing, with multipurpose options under consideration. Midfielder Lucas Tousart has filled in at centre-back during pre-season, including at the City Ground, while left-back Justin Bourgault is being managed because of knee pain, making an inexperienced duo unlikely.
