Brendan Rodgers has admitted that his Celtic side are far from their best despite the Irishman recording a personal milestone. The Scottish Champions secured a late comeback to defeat visiting Motherwell.
Daizen Maeda’s injury time winner secured three points for Celtic; although, the Hoops had to really dig deep to go into the international break with a win. The result means that it is 200 wins as Celtic manager for Rodgers.
Rodgers has been a key figure in Celtic’s success in the last ten years, driving the standards up across the club. The ex-Liverpool manager is yet to be offered a new contract and that must be something that is concerning for supporters given his success.
Celtic have been in a tough spot in the early stages of the season, failing to capitalise on the position of strength in the transfer market. With that said, performances need to pick up and the manager has recognised it.
Speaking after the game, the manager admitted that it was the biggest challenge that he had faced across two spells at Celtic.
“Yes it is. I think when I first came back it was a challenge. But yes, having to work so hard to try to get balance, try to get speed, try to get everything into the team when there’s certain characteristics that are missing from the squad.
“You need to win, you need to find a way to win. And I do believe that as the season goes on, we will be better. But the speed in the team that we’ve had over the last few seasons, it’s not quite the same.
“However, we have to find a way. We have to find a way to get the win. And the players did that today. Showing a big heart, a lot of spirit, great determination and a lot of fight, which is what you need over the course of a long season.”
