Brentford Under-21s beat Wigan Athletic Under-21s 4-0 in Professional Development League action at Wheatsheaf Park on Tuesday afternoon as Vitaly Janelt returned to action, playing the entire first half.

Myles Peart-Harris and Romelle Donovan both found the net, Andre Grey completed the scoring with a brace, while Benjamin Arthur rounded off the first-team involvement.

Michael Olakigbe found space on the edge of the box early on after a smart pass from Janelt, but Matteo Spinelli reacted well to parry the effort clear.

The rebound fell to Peart-Harris, who picked out Donovan in the area, but his shot came back off the post.

The pressure on the Latics’ goal continued as Peart-Harris glided past his marker and fired a strike that beat the goalkeeper but came back off the post.

Christy Edwards' unorthodox lob from a tight angle had Reggie Rose retreating towards his line as the goalkeeper had to tip the effort over the bar.

Rose was called into action early in the second period as he had to make a smart save to deny Leo Graham.

The lead was doubled on 55 minutes, as the energetic Ethan Laidlaw made a great run down the wing and found Donovan in the box and despite getting a glove on the winger's shot, Spinelli could do little to stop it from hitting the back of the net.

It did not take long for the Bees to score their third as a Grey was found in the box by Peart-Harris and the midfielder rifled a shot past Spinelli which crashed against the crossbar and then into the net.

Brentford were firmly in control of the contest and Grey grabbed his second of the game, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and reacting quickest to finish well.

Donovan could have scored his second of the game as Michel Boni played a pass to him in the six-yard box but the winger failed to connect with the ball.

After last week's hard-earned win against Huddersfield Town, Tuesday afternoon's performance was clinical and impressive as the game ended 4-0.

Brentford will be in action next on Monday 15 September as they take on Crewe Alexandra away from home.
