Leeds United accepted Pascal Struijk’s exit to Brighton for £20m after he rejected fresh terms, a move that highlighted what they are losing.
According to Leeds Live, completing the transfer before one July helped the club meet Profit and Sustainability Requirements in their latest accounts. The 26-year-old Dutch defender had spent eight years at Elland Road and was central to Daniel Farke’s plans.
Leeds offered a new contract in the hope of extending his stay beyond a decade. Struijk told the club he wanted a new environment and would not extend, making a sale essential.
Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler explained that Struijk fits the profile they targeted, with Premier League experience and his peak years ahead.
He pointed to last season as evidence of strong defensive work and comfort on the ball, adding that the defender’s style aligns with Brighton’s approach.
Hurzeler also described Struijk as a leader, noting he wore the captain’s armband at times for Leeds last season, and called him an excellent addition he looks forward to working with.
