Leeds United say the sale of Pascal Struijk to Brighton and Hove Albion has helped keep them within Profitability and Sustainability Rules on the final deadline day. The club said in a statement that player trading this summer was anticipated after the 2025 decision to keep key players for a Premier League survival bid.

The Whites confirmed the centre-back’s departure to their Premier League rivals for an undisclosed fee, understood to be a guaranteed 18m with add-ons that could bring in a further 12m, and a future sell-on clause. He was offered a significantly improved contract in the final year of his deal but wanted a new challenge.

A 14th-place finish and a run to the Emirates FA Cup semi-final, combined with Struijk’s sale, mean the club have remained within PSR. A new financial system, Squad Cost Ratio, now comes into place for Premier League clubs.

Struijk joined from Ajax in 2018 as an 18-year-old for the Under-21s on a free, so this summer’s deal is considered pure profit. He broke through in Marcelo Bielsa’s 2019/20 promotion campaign, then established himself in the first team.

The 26-year-old departs with 196 appearances and 14 goals, and two Championship titles. He was part of Daniel Farke’s leadership group and served as vice-captain.

Leeds praised his professionalism, community work and leadership, and said he and his young family will always be welcomed back to Elland Road.
