Gas supporters will be relieved about the latest reports surrounding the vacant Hibernian hot seat.

Bristol Rovers were among the favourites for League Two promotion, and they have not disappointed, continuing their fine form into the new season under manager Steve Evans.

Evans took the reins at the Memorial Stadium last November with the Gas struggling, and the Scot, who has a superb record in the EFL, has only enhanced his reputation.

Hibs have now lost six home league games in a row for the first time since 1920, and that was enough for the club to sack Gray on Wednesday.

In a fresh turn of events, Ivory Coast's World Cup boss Emerse Fae is interested in becoming the Scottish club's new boss, according to SunSport.

The publication reports that the 42-year-old is keen to get back into work, having left his international post at the end of July, and has already been studying Hibernian's squad and style of play.

Bristol Rovers are going through their second successive season in League Two, their longest spell in the fourth tier in 12 years.

Supporters will understandably be itching to return to League One, and that feels like a genuine possibility this campaign, as the feel-good factor is well and truly back with Evans.

Rovers are currently second in the table, level with league leaders Barnet on 12 points and head to Gillingham this afternoon in what should prove a difficult match.

The key ingredient to the Gas' success has been Evans, who has a formidable record in English football, achieving five promotions with Boston United, Crawley Town, Rotherham United and Stevenage.

The Scot has twice been promoted from League Two, with his latest triumph with Stevenage in the 2022/23 season, and Bristol Rovers fans will be hoping he stays to complete his mission.

While Evans has not spoken about the vacant Hibernian job since he was linked with it, he has made comments about managing north of the border in the past.

“I am a proud Scot and returning to manage in the [Scottish] Premiership is definitely something that would interest me," Evans told The Express via Sports Mole when vacancies opened at Dundee United and Motherwell in September 2015.

“There are a lot of good ambitious clubs in Scotland who are looking to progress and move forward.”

Of course, those comments were made more than a decade ago and not only have things changed in Scottish football since then, but things may have also changed for Evans, who is enjoying a fruitful spell at the Memorial Stadium.
