Bruno Fernandes has said Manchester Unite did not match the intensity and aggression of Hull City after an opening day defeat at MKM Stadium.
Manchester United were stunned by the newly-promoted Tigers, who scored twice in the first half to claim a 2-0 win.
Michael Carrick's side were undone by two set-pieces, with Semi Ajayi firing Hull ahead after the Red Devils failed to deal with a ball into the box.
Regan Slater's delivery found a route to Oli McBurnie, whose effort was turned onto the post by Senne Lammens. Ajayi was first on the scene to lash in the rebound.
Hull had a second seven minutes before half-time, when club-record signing Nobel Mendy met another Slater set piece to head home.
United looked off the pace in a lacklustre and disappointing display, with Hull claiming a first-everPremier League win over their shellshocked opponents.
Fernandes, talking toTNT Sports, said he understands the fan frustration after a poor performance, and said United did not match the intensity of their opposition.
"We know in thePremier League these types of away grounds are difficult to play against. You need to match their intensity and aggression. The two set pieces ended up costing us the game today.
"We understand the frustration, every season at the start we want to compete and win every game but we need the fans on our side, and to believe in ourselves."
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick said his team must improve after a stuttering start, but insisted his side won't panic after their opening-weekend setback.
"We have a bit to improve on, it was never going to be perfect going behind makes it more difficult, against a promoted team at home, we can't give them much and they had opportunities, we're disappointed but it won't knock us.
"It's for us to know and to improve during the week and keep getting stronger as a group and we have a lot to learn from it."
