Gunners boss wants to establish his side as Premier League’s great entertainers

Bruno Guimaraes has revealed Mikel Arteta is “very obsessed” with ensuring Arsenal become one of the Premier League’s most exciting sides.

The Gunners have made a fine start to their Premier League title defence, winning all three of their matches so far and securing a statement 2-1 defeat of Chelsea last time out.

The summer signing Guimaraes, who moved from Newcastle in a deal worth £75m, has not played much of a role thus far in the campaign, playing just 20 minutes in the league as he deals with a niggling injury. Those minutes came off the bench at Villa Park last week.

In spite of that, he only has good things to say about his first weeks representing Arsenal.

“It's great to be able to work with such a strong team,” he told The Mirror. “There's something impressive about this team.

“They're strong physically, strong in defence, strong in attack. It seems that this season they're playing better than last season. I think that's the goal, to improve every year.”

He continued, explaining Arteta is committed to making the side as fun to watch as possible: “That's the message that Arteta wants to pass on to us.

“I think that since the first time I talked to him, he's very obsessed with these things, he's always improving.”

And in a clear statement of intent for the title race, he added: “We can see that our team is playing very well. It's just the beginning, there's a lot to come, but so far, congratulations to everyone.”

Guimaraes is helping in that end. His second-half cameo against Aston Villa was credited with unlocking Unai Emery’s stubborn side, with his incisive passing unlocking the Villans.

It is hoped he can return to the pitch in midweek as Arsenal visit Napoli in the Champions League.
