Bruno Henrique dedicated Flamengo’s Campeonato Carioca title to former coach Filipe Luís and praised new head coach Leonardo Jardim after missing the final through injury.
He sat out the win over Fluminense because of pubalgia but was at the Maracanã to receive his medal and lift the trophy after victory on penalties. According to Globo.com, the forward, now on 18 trophies alongside Arrascaeta as the club’s most decorated, felt the success underlined the team’s strength and hoped it would be the first of many under Jardim.
He also congratulated Filipe Luís for his role in the triumph and described Jardim as high calibre, noting the coach had addressed the full squad, stressed collective responsibility and acknowledged that not everyone would play every game in a demanding year.
Jardim has made clear he will rotate rather than rely on 11 fixed starters, aiming to use the depth of the group across the season.
In that context, Wallace Yan, introduced to the senior side by Filipe Luís and praised by the current coach, is targeting more minutes. He said Filipe had been pivotal in teaching him and adapting his role, and added that Jardim has shown confidence, so he will work hard to earn his place.
With the state title secured, Flamengo turn to the Campeonato Brasileiro, hosting Cruzeiro at the Maracanã on Wednesday at 21:30.
