Bryan Bergougnoux, Le Havre assistant coach and former Lyon forward, has died in Toulouse aged 43. His death comes only days after he helped the club secure Ligue 1 survival as Didier Digard’s assistant.

According to Le Progres, he lost consciousness in a vehicle en route to the Stadium in Toulouse for a legends tournament scheduled on 29 May 2026, and later died in hospital after a further episode.

Born in Lyon’s Croix-Rousse and developed at Olympique Lyonnais, he made his senior debut in 2001 aged 18 against Lens. For OL, he played 48 matches, scored six goals, and won Ligue 1 titles in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

He grew in prominence for Lyon and France Under-21s, lifting the Toulon Tournament in 2004.

Seeking minutes, he joined Toulouse from 2005 to 2009, then Lecce from 2009 to 2012, with a spell at Châteauroux in 2011 and Omonia Nicosia in 2012. From 2012 to 2018 he played for Tours, including the last match at Gerland in the Coupe de France, then moved to Thonon Evian in 2018.

He began coaching at Thonon Evian in 2018-2019, then worked with Tours before returning to the professional game at Le Havre at the start of last season.

Remembered as warm and approachable, he had faced health problems since retiring, including parotid cancer and a stroke. He is survived by four children.
