Bryan Bergougnoux, the former OL forward and three-time French champion, died on 29 May aged 43 following a heart attack.
According to Le Progres, the final farewell will take place on Monday 8 June at 14:30 at the gymnase de la Ficelle in Croix-Rousse, Lyon’s 4th arrondissement.
Many tributes have followed since the announcement, which came as he prepared for a gala match in Toulouse.
Former OL team-mates have launched a Leetchi fund to support his wife Marine and their four children. Their message recalls his resilience through financial hardship and illness, and his constant love for family. They say any contribution, whatever the amount, will help the family through the months ahead.
He progressed at OL between 1998 and 2005, winning three French titles. He then played for TFC from 2005 to 2009, Lecce from 2009 to 2012, Châteauroux in 2011, Omonia Nicosia in 2012, Tours from 2012 to 2018, and Thonon Evian from 2018 to 2019.
He was widely appreciated for his openness and forthright character, and his loss leaves a deep void for those who knew him. He had experienced health problems after retiring.
