The Clarets haven't yet confirmed a replacement for Scott Parker following relegation
Burnley have yet to appoint a replacement for Scott Parker since their relegation from the Premier League, and fresh reporting confirms that the former England star Steven Gerrard remains on their radar.
The club will be targeting a quick return to the Premier League following their relegation from the top-flight at the end of the 2025-26 season. The Clarets finished the season in 19th place in the table, 19 points from safety after having collected just four wins all season, so it's clear that there's work to be done at Turf Moor this summer.
The most pressing job to be carried out at the club is to find a new manager.
Burnley relieved Scott Parker of his duties at the end of April, with four games of the season yet to play. Mike Jackson took over for those four games, from which the Clarets picked up two points to round off their season, but this was an interim position only and the race is now on to secure a successor.

Reporting to his Patreon on Sunday morning, journalist Alan Nixon confirms that the former England international Steven Gerrard remains on The Clarets' radar, but that he could face stiff competition for the role, with Nixon reporting, "Burnley are working on a short list of TEN candidates for the managerial vacancy."
No details are available as to who else is on the Burnley shortlist at present, but Nixon does confirm that the club have cast their net wide, with "some foreign options" potentially being on the table.
Burnley fans who are growing concerned at the amount of time they're taking to make this appointment will take a little relief from Nixon's confirmation that, "a decision is due at the end of the week."

With five players - Lyle Foster, Zeki Amdouni, Hjalmar Ekdal, Hannibal Mejbri and Axel Tuanzebe - away on World Cup duty, it might be considered that Burnley have a little longer than normal in order to complete their search for a successor to Scott Parker.
But time does remain of the essence. Any new manager will want as much of a pre-season as he can get with his players, especially at a club which has just been relegated, and at which there may be a lot of transfer movement before the end of the summer transfer window.
Steven Gerrard's name has been linked with Burnley since before Parker even left the club. The former Liverpool star has been out of the managerial game since leaving the Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq at the end of January 2025, though he has been of interest to other clubs since then.
Having been successful in his previous spell at the club, the Scottish giants Rangers sounded him out for a possible reunion following their dismissal of Russell Martin in October 2025, but Gerrard rejected the offer. He was also connected with the vacant position at Bristol City.
Gerrard has confirmed that he could be open to managing in the Championship, and the clock is ticking. The experience of Leicester City last season demonstrated that automatic promotion back to the Premier League following relegation cannot be taken as a given, and Burnley will want to make the most of the big advantage given to them by being in their first year of Premier League parachute payments.
The time is rapidly approaching when push will turn to shove, when it comes to deciding who will be in charge while all at the club will be hoping to be a quick return to the top flight.
