Eduardo Camavinga has responded publicly following Real Madrid’s dramatic elimination from the UEFA Champions League, issuing an apology after his late sending off proved decisive against Bayern Munich.
The quarter-final second leg in Munich had offered Madrid a real chance of staging a comeback, but the tie slipped away in the closing stages.
Much of the post-match discussion quickly centred on Camavinga, whose dismissal late in normal time left his side at a crucial disadvantage when they were still pushing for a result.
The French midfielder had already been under scrutiny heading into the game.
Despite the absence of Aurelien Tchouameni due to suspension, he was not included in the starting line-up, a decision that raised eyebrows.
When he was introduced, the expectation was to bring control and energy into midfield during a high-pressure moment.
Instead, the game turned against him, as Camavinga struggled to impose himself after the break and eventually found himself in trouble with the referee.
A moment of poor judgment, refusing to release the ball despite repeated warnings, resulted in a second yellow card.

While some viewed the decision as harsh, the situation could have been avoided, and it ultimately came at the worst possible time for Madrid.
The red card not only halted Madrid’s momentum but also shifted the psychological balance in favour of Bayern, effectively ending any realistic hopes of a late turnaround.
In the aftermath, heavy criticism followed, with Camavinga becoming the focal point of frustration following the club’s European exit.
Almost 24 hours later, the midfielder addressed the situation directly.
Taking to social media, he delivered a clear and composed message, accepting his mistake and showing accountability during a difficult moment in his career.
“I take responsibility for my part. I wanted to apologise to my team and the Madrid fans. Thank you for all the support. Hala Madrid, always,” he wrote.
At just 23, Camavinga remains a key part of the club’s long-term project, valued for his versatility, composure, and ability to perform across multiple roles in midfield and defence.
While this incident will undoubtedly serve as a learning moment, it certainly does not overshadow his contribution throughout the years.
