Cape Verde and defending champions Argentina are set to kick off their knockout stage campaign as they face each other in a Round of 32 clash at Miami Stadium in Florida.
Cape Verde, making their World Cup debut, have been one of the surprise packages of the tournament so far. The Blue Sharks remain unbeaten after progressing from Group H as runners-up, thanks largely to their strong defensive performances.
They began with an impressive 0-0 draw against Spain, followed by an entertaining 2-2 draw with Uruguay, and secured qualification with another disciplined 0-0 result against Saudi Arabia.
The team receives a boost with the return of left-back Sidny Lopes Cabral, who is back from suspension after missing the final group game. However, manager Bubista has concerns in midfield due to injuries. Telmo Arcanjo has been ruled out with a muscle problem, while both Jamiro Monteiro and Kevin Lenini are dealing with minor fitness issues and will be assessed before kickoff.
Despite these challenges, much will depend on the experience anperformancees of veteran goalkeeper Vozinha, who has been outstanding at the age of 40.
Cape Verdisre expected to adopt a cautious approach, likely setting up in a compact 4-5-1 formation. Their strategy will focus on stayinorganiseded defensively, limiting space in midfield, and trying to catch Argentina on the counter-attack.
Possible starting XI: Cape Verde: Vozinha; Moreira, Pico, Diney, S. Cabral; Lenini; Mendes, Duarte, Monteiro, J. Cabral; Livramento
The match will kick off at 11pm BST on Friday, 3rd July.
